Setting up your campsite properly takes some consideration. There are some things to consider that will make your camping experience so much better. Let's take a deeper dive into how to set up yout campsite for maximum enjoyment.

Before you go

  • Be prepared
  • Have a kitchen box,
  • Have a first aid kit
  • Check gear
  • Pack with a plan – rain gear, lights, first aid should be easily accessible

 

Location

Basics

  • Sheltered
  • Not under trees
  • Not in a river bed
  • Not in a flood zone

 

Practicality

  • Close to water source
  • Campfire close to source of wood
  • Layout around a common area
  • Enjoy the view

 

Comfortable

  • Flat
  • No rocks or stones
  • Check for insects
  • Stay in the shade

 

Gear

  • Lantern
  • High volume low pressure pump for mattress

 

Campfire

  • Far enough from tent to avoid embers
  • Dig a fire pit
  • Could be a focal point

 

Toilet

  • Down wind and down hill

 

Rubbish

  • Hang your rubbish with a bear hang
